Bio wines : better wines?
In Alsace, 83 winegrowers chose the biodynamic path, a small 6 % of alsatian total wineyards.
The 2006 edition of "meeting with biodynamic alsatian winegrowers" took place in Paris after Strasbourg last year, and Kientzheim (Alsace) in 2004.
Promoting alsatian bio wines outside Alsace was the main goal. Wine professionals (wine waiters, restaurant owners, cellarmen...) had the opportunity to discover a wide range of bio wines.
Every year, 15 to 20 wine producers turn to bio for mainly 3 reasons:
- Environnement, heath and taste.
For Jean Schoetzel, a winegrower who officially turned to bio right after the mad cow crisis, the matter was as much a sanitary one as a quality one.
He said his objective is "to meet wines with more personality", that "bio is essential to do haute couture".
Quality wines are promised to a brighter futur in Alsace.
Grapes issued from biological agricutlture held the Bio Appelation.
Professional Biological Agriculture in Alsace Organization (OPABA) is working on a biological vinifiction charter which is due this year.
