Generic

A wine that takes its name from a European district that has garnered some fame.
American "Chabils" are meant to recall the French product, but usually don’t.
The original intent of such rip-offs was pure and natural: to sell that which is recognizable (to an immigrant population that was familiar with the terms).
Nowadays, such names are giving way to more accurate, if less colorful, appellations.
