History
" Morswilare " is quoted as early as the 10th century: It is under this name that Obermorschwihr was at that time part of the seigniory of Rouffach, itself part of the bishopric of Strasbourg.
The lords of " Hattstatt " continuously disputed the properties which the canons of Murbach owned there.
In 1298, the count of Ferrette, at that time in war against the bishop of Strasbourg, destroyed the fortified cemetery. His troops, after having seized the village, smashed the inhabitants' wine barrels.
The village benefits currently from a demographic expansion.
Sightseeing
Burials from the bronze age were discovered at the time of excavations.
The church " Saint Philippe and Saint Jacques " goes back to 1718 , its bell-tower-porch, having formerly been used as choir, of the 13th century.
The old sacristy is currently used as a baptistery of Gothic style, the last storey of the bell-tower with half-timbered restored murals.
