History
Heiligenstein is mentioned for the first time in 1181, but was built between 9th century and this year 1181.
The village belonged to the " Landsberg " who build there their castle in 13th century.
This one was destroyed by the Swedes in 17th century.
The village had from immemorial time a wine vocation.
Sightseeing
On a close rocky crest, the vestiges of Landsberg's castle dating the end of the 12th , 13th and 15th centuries, with the dungeon, the curtain flanked by round towers, the oriel window (obviously the absidiole of the ancient Roman chapel), the Roman windows.
The City Hall of the 19th century and Ehrhard Wantz's statue, who introduced in 1742 the Klevener, particular vine to the village.

The Klevener of Heiligenstein has a very clearly defined character. Getting better over the years, as full bodied as Gewurztraminer, but with a more subtile nose and a strong taste of soil.
The Klevener of Heiligenstein is a less aromatic type of grape issued from the ancient Traminer or savagnin rose, also appreciated by the gourmets.
