 Three years ago, when the Golan Heights Winery of Israel released its first Gewurztraminer wine, very few people here had any idea that there was even a Gewurztraminer grape, yet alone how to pronounce it's name.
In parts of Alsace, where the grape has been successfully grown for at least four hundred years, many people do not know that there is any other grape.

| You've probably heard the saying that if you don't like Chardonnay, it's because you haven't found the right one. Tongue and cheek sentiment aside, it bears witness to the great variety of different wines that all masquerade under the single title of Chardonnay, some so disparate as to hardly be recognizable as coming from the same grape.

Meaning great wine comes from great grapes planted in great soil, which in turn comes from a great location.
Wine is the fermented juice of freshly gathered wine grapes and has been with us since Ancient Egyptian times.

Alsace rises above the sea of chardonnay
I admit it: I'm sick of chardonnay. Whether it's ultra-expensive white Burgundy, a massive over-oaked fruit bomb from Australia or California that deadens the palate after a few sips, or one of the flailing attempts from Italy, Spain, and elsewhere to emulate one of those styles, there's a pervasive abuse of this potentially great grape that I just can't stomach anymore.
